Authorities have issued a high flood alert in Pindi Bhattian as the water level in the Chenab River continues to rise, spreading devastating floodwaters across several districts of Punjab.
Rising water levels in Basti Greywala area of Multan have submerged crops on lakhs of acres. In Shorkot area of Jhang, moderate flooding of 260,000 cusecs has been recorded under the Sultan Bahu Bridge. At Darkhana, floodwaters hit the railway bridge, causing traffic on the Shorkot-Khanewal railway section to remain suspended for the second consecutive day.
Devastating floodwaters from both the Chenab and Indus rivers in Liaquatpur have submerged several villages and destroyed agricultural land. Meanwhile, relief operations are underway in Thatta Hashmat and Dom villages in Chiniot, 25 people have been shifted to safer places and 1312 people have been rescued so far.
The situation remains critical in Pindi Bhattian where 557,000 cusecs of flood water is flowing. A breach in the embankment of Samand Wana in Ahmedpur Sial has submerged several villages and damaged agriculture.
In Shujaabad, near Sher Shah, a 200-foot-wide crack emerged after the protective embankment of Gagra village was washed away, allowing floodwater to enter nearby settlements.
Tragedy struck Mandi Bahauddin where two youths drowned in separate incidents caused by rising floodwaters.
