Liaison wing was formed to arrest 78 criminals of Mandi Bahauddin who were active from abroad

A Liaison Wing has been formed to arrest criminals who are operating from abroad. Giving more disturbing figures, an official source said that out of a total of 910 criminals who escaped abroad, 243 were residents of Gujrat, 158 of Sialkot, 92 of Gujranwala, 78 of Mandi Bahauddin, 45 of Sargodha and 39 of Lahore.

He said that the Liaison Wing had been directed by IGP Dr Usman Anwar to collect details of ‘most wanted’ criminals from all regional police officers so that legal action could be taken against them.

In what appears to be a first such initiative, the Punjab Police has constituted a ‘Liaison wing’ consisting of the senior officers from police, Interpol and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to bring 910 ‘category A’ hardened criminals back to Pakistan from abroad.

Majority of them – 70 percent – are hiding in Gulf countries, especially Dubai, while others are in Europe, USA and Canada, from where they operate local criminals in Lahore and the rest of the province to extort small amounts of money from their targets.
