Dengue outbreak continues in Punjab with 168 new cases

The health department said that 168 new cases were reported in the province on Thursday. A total of 4,999 confirmed dengue cases have been reported in Punjab this year.

Lahore tops the list with 1,953 cases, followed by Rawalpindi with 1,404 cases. Multan with 583, Faisalabad with 226 and Gujranwala with 225 cases.

The situation remains alarming with 46 more dengue cases reported in Lahore, 64 in Rawalpindi, 21 in Multan, 5 in Faisalabad and 12 in Gujranwala. While two cases each were reported from Sheikhupura, Chakwal, Sargodha, Khanewal and Lodhran. One new dengue case was confirmed in Kasur, Muzaffargarh, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Sahiwal, Okara, Mandi Bahauddin, Wahari and Bhakkar at the same time.

At present, 129 dengue patients are under treatment in various hospitals across Punjab, of which 50 are admitted in Lahore hospital alone. Punjab Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan has made a compelling appeal to citizens to keep their surroundings clean and dry as an important preventive measure against dengue fever.
