An epidemic of conjunctivitis spread in Mandi Bahauddin

A sudden outbreak of conjunctivitis has engulfed the residents of Mandi Bahauddin, adding to the health challenges facing the city.

With more than a hundred new cases being reported at DHQ Hospital every day, medical authorities are urging citizens to take precautions to prevent the spread of eye infections.

Dr. Sarfaraz Latif, in-charge of the eye department at DHQ Hospital, warned that the only way to stop the epidemic from spreading further is through strict precautions. Dr. Sarfraz Latif explained, “The duration of the epidemic in infected patients is usually 3 to 4 days.

“Conjunctivitis is highly contagious and can spread easily through direct contact or contaminated surfaces. Therefore, it is very important for those affected to wash their eyes frequently and practice social distancing.”

Symptoms of conjunctivitis include redness, itching, discharge and tearing of the eyes. Although it is not generally considered a serious condition, the ease with which it spreads through communities requires strict precautions.
