    A school teacher was shot dead in Mandi Bahauddin

    A female teacher of a private school in Mandi Bahauddin was shot dead by some people over a marital dispute.

    The assailants opened fire on the teacher in Kuthiala Sheikhan area while she was going to school, police said. “She was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries”.

    The force said they have registered a case and started investigation into the incident.

    Post-graduate classes for doctors started in DHQ hospitals

    On the directives of Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, post-graduate classes for doctors are starting in district headquarters hospitals of the province, a historic first for Pakistan.

    Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Care Dr. Jamal Nasir disclosed this on Wednesday while meeting a delegation of Young Doctors Association Punjab led by its president Dr. Shoaib Niazi.

    The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Pakistan College of Physicians and Surgeons, will offer postgraduate programs for doctors in Attock, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Mandi Bahauddin and Jhang. The aim of this initiative is to extend specialized medical services to the less developed districts of the province.

    Additionally, the Punjab Health Department has integrated hematology into pathology, introducing post-graduation in clinical hematology under a central induction policy. The minister highlighted the creation of new posts for hematologist doctors and the operation of blood banks under their supervision.

    He congratulated Dr. Shoaib Niazi on being elected as YDA President, hoping that the Young Doctors will live up to Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s vision to enhance healthcare services for the citizens.

    Punjab govt has made it mandatory to wear face masks in smog-affected districts

    The caretaker government of Punjab on Sunday made it mandatory for citizens in 10 smog-affected districts of the province to wear masks while stepping out of their homes.

    “Punjab Government has announced a one-week mandate for all citizens in smog-affected districts of Punjab to wear face masks. It is our collective responsibility to prioritize health. Please follow the guidelines for a safe community. Do it,” he said.

    According to the notification shared by Naqvi, the order will be enforced in Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Narowal, Hafizabad, Sialkot and Mandi Bahauddin from November 20 to November 26.

    Earlier, the government had decided to impose a smart lockdown in smog-affected districts on November 18 to address the alarming rise in conjunctivitis cases amid rising air pollution levels and smog. All public and private schools, colleges, universities and offices were closed.

    Experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the harmful effects of smog, such as wearing masks, using air purifiers, avoiding outdoor activities, especially during Suhoor hours, and if they have any Get medical help if you have any kind of pain.

    Holiday declared on November 18 due to smog in Punjab

    Government and private schools in 10 districts of Punjab will remain closed on Saturday, November 18, in view of the worsening smog situation.

    Along with educational institutions in Lahore, markets, gyms, shops and cinemas will also remain closed till 3 pm, as per the latest government notification.

    The precautionary measure has been specifically targeted at areas that are most affected by smog, including Lahore, Nankana, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Gujranwala. In the notification, the closure has been extended to Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad and Mandi Bahauddin on the same day.

    Dengue outbreak continues in Punjab with 219 new cases.

    Punjab continues to be in the grip of dengue outbreak, as 219 new cases were recorded here on Friday. According to the latest data from the Health Department, a total of 11,188 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported in 36 districts of Punjab this year.

    Lahore leads with 4,868 cases, followed by Rawalpindi with 2,450, Multan with 1,110, Faisalabad with 557, and Gujranwala with 1,043 cases. The situation continues, 83 more dengue cases were reported in Lahore, 24 in Rawalpindi, 23 in Multan, 41 in Gujranwala, 28 in Faisalabad, four in Sahiwal, three in Sialkot and three in Wahari.

    Meanwhile, one case each of dengue was reported in Sheikhupura, Attock, Narowal, Okara, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Toba Tek Singh and Mandi Bahauddin in 24 hours. At present, 146 dengue patients are under treatment in various hospitals across Punjab, of which 91 are under treatment in district hospitals of Lahore.

    The Meteorological Department has forecast rain/wind/thundershower with snowfall over the mountains in the upper parts of the country from November 08 to 09. Due to which the day temperature will decrease by two to three degrees Celsius.

    A shallow westerly wave, affecting the western parts of the country, may sweep over the upper regions on November 08 (evening/night) and is likely to persist over northern regions till afternoon after November 10.

    Under the influence of this weather system, light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm is also expected in Quetta, Kharan, Harnai, Chaman, Ziarat, Qilla Abdullah, Qillah Saif Ullah, Loralai, Pishin, Zhob, Musa Khel, Sibbi, Mastung, Kalat, Noshki and Chaghi on November 06 (evening/night) and November 07. Light rain-thunderstorm is expected in Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Islamabad and Pothohar region on November 07 (evening/night).

    Light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm with hailstorm is also expected at isolated places of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sheikhupura and Hafizabad on November 08 (evening/night) and November 09.

    Rain-wind/thunderstorm, with snowfall over the high mountains, is expected in Kashmir, (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) during the period. Fog/smog is likely to develop (patches) in plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the coming days especially late-night and early morning hours.

    Regarding the impact of rain, the PMD said that the day temperature is likely to drop by 02 to 03 degrees Celsius during this spell. Farmers in rainfed areas are advised to manage their cropping activities accordingly while tourists and travelers to northern areas are advised to exercise caution during this time.

    LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the District Headquarters Hospital, District Jail and Thana City at Mandi Bahauddin and inaugurated the railway gate to Sat Sira road and to Sat Sira to King Mor Road.

    Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi reviewed the medical facilities at DHQ Hospital Mandi Bahauddin, visited the patients undergoing treatment in various wards and inquired about the facility of free medicines and free tests. Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi also met the doctors. And appreciated the performance of the doctors and staff engaged in serving the suffering humanity.

    Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that District Headquarters Hospital Mandi Bahauddin is better than many hospitals in Lahore. Work on various projects for the welfare of the people is going on in Mandi Bahauddin.

    Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited various barracks of District Jail Mandi Bahauddin, met the prisoners and inquired about their problems. Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi also inspected the jail kitchen.

    Chief Secretary Punjab Zahidi Akhtar Zaman and IG Police Dr. Usman Anwar were also with the Chief Minister. Chief Secretary and IGP also laid flowers on the grave of martyred police officer Ashraf Marth. Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi recited Fatiha for martyred SSP Ashraf Marth.

    The armed police team saluted the martyred police officer Ashraf Marth. Paying homage to the martyred police officer Ashraf Marth’s great sacrifice, the Chief Minister said that police officer Ashraf Marth achieved the high status of martyrdom.

    Shaheed Ashraf Marth was the first police officer of the Police Service of Pakistan who martyred himself due to the target killing of terrorists. Chief Minister said that Shaheed Ashraf Marth is alive in our hearts and will remain forever. The eternal sacrifice of Shaheed Ashraf Marth will never be forgotten.

    Locals launch road repair on self-help basis

    Residents of Pahrianwali, a small town in Mandi Bahauddin district, frustrated with the government officials and politicians of the area, have started the repair work of a seven-kilometer long dilapidated road on their own.

    According to local sources, the road passing through the town and connecting it to nearby villages has potholes due to lack of maintenance for a long time. The local people kept approaching the administration and political figures for reconstruction or repair of the road but to no avail.

    Sources say that local police officer Nadeem, who is a resident of Pahrianwali, initially started repairing a section of the road in front of his house by filling potholes. Later, a group of local youths, who run a welfare society, also joined in and began repairing the seven-kilometer road from Pahrianwali base, which connects the city to three villages.

    Sources said that Rs 2.2 million has been spent on the road repair work so far, adding that the money is being donated by local philanthropists, including a group of expatriates.

    They say an engineer, who is a resident of the area and is now on a day’s leave from government work, is volunteering and using his expertise for the self-help project.

    An official of the welfare society says that the total cost of the road repair work will be Rs 30 lakh. They claim that the society has already constructed many streets and minor drains in the city, besides installing street lights and providing scholarships to needy students.

    Two persons killed in a collision with a high-speed jeep coming from wrong side

    At least two people were killed and one injured when a speeding jeep coming from the wrong side of the road hit them near Gojra town in Mandi Bahauddin on Tuesday.

    Police said three persons, identified as Wasi-ul-Hasan, Hasan Ejaz and Qasim Zafar, were going from Gojra to Bosal village on a motorcycle when they were hit by a speeding jeep coming from the wrong side.

    As a result, Hasan Ejaz and Wasi were seriously injured and died on the spot while Qasim was also injured and shifted to the hospital. The jeep driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle there.

    The family members of the deceased alleged that the person driving the jeep was under the influence of alcohol and was driving at high speed, quoting eyewitnesses.

    Gojra Police has registered a case against the named accused Ijaz Ahmed under Sections 322, 337G, 427 and 279 of the Pakistan Penal Code and started investigation.

    The deceased were buried in their native areas after which the bodies were handed over to the heirs.
