A love marriage woman was shot dead by her ex-husband on Friday after a court in Mandi Bahauddin town’s Phalia court ruled in her favor in a divorce case.

According to the police, 25-year-old Nimra, a resident of Gujarat’s Azizabad Colony, had married Owais Qamar for love a few years ago. The couple had a daughter.  However, differences arose between the couple and Nimra filed a civil suit for divorce from her husband in the Civil Court of Phalia.

The court decided the case in Nimra’s favor on Friday. After hearing the verdict, Nimra left the court premises with her brother. On their way back, when the brother and sister stopped at a stall to buy snacks, Nimra’s husband, who was chasing them, allegedly shot her dead on the spot and fled the scene.

As soon as the incident was reported, the police reached the spot and shifted the body to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Phalia for post-mortem. Later, a team of forensic experts collected evidence from the crime scene.

The police have registered a case under Sections 302, 148, 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the accused Awais Qamar, his brother Nadeem and their mother Anwar Bibi.

The Phalia police have registered a case against at least 34 people, including 31 named accused, in a triple-murder case related to the firing outside the Phalia court premises.
