The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday has predicted more rains at intervals from August 23 to 27 in various parts of the country. This will provide relief to the heat-affected people in the hot and humid weather conditions for the past few days.
Although the rains will bring relief to the people by reducing the heat intensity, it will also increase the flow of water in local rivers and may lead to urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas. From August 22 (evening or night), moderate monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea are likely to enter the upper regions of the country.
A westerly wave is also likely to enter these areas on August 23. Rain/Thundershowers with few moderate to heavy rains are likely over Kashmir under the influence of these systems (Wadi Neelum, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Siddhanoti, Kotli, Bhimbar, Mirpur), Gilgit. Galiat, Murree, Rawalpindi, Islamabad on August 23 to 25 and August 25 and 26 mountain storms in Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining areas of North East Balochistan.
From August 23 to 26, moderate to heavy rains in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore may lead to urban flooding and during this period landfall in dangerous areas of hilly areas of Murree, Guliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Dam operators are advised to manage reservoir levels accordingly during wet periods. The PMD advised farmers to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast and advised tourists and travelers to be extra cautious to avoid any untoward situation during the wet season.
Thunderstorms can damage loose structures such as electric poles, solar panels, etc. All concerned authorities are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions during the forecast period.
